Harold Hamm’s Continental Set to Announce Venezuela Oil Deal
Billionaire shale pioneer Harold Hamm's Continental Resources Inc. is set to announce a deal to invest in Venezuela as the Trump administration pushes US companies to revive the nation's oil sector, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The Oklahoma City-based company plans to make the announcement at the G20 energy ministers summit in Houston, according to the person who asked not to be identified because the deal isn't public.
Continental declined to comment. Venezuela's information ministry and the White House didn't immediately respond.
Earlier Wednesday, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said on Fox Business Network that a "very well-known oil company, an American company" would announce an investment in Venezuela.
An agreement by Hamm, a significant donor to US President Donald Trump, would add to a slate of deal in recent weeks aimed at boosting Venezuela's crude production.
