We are seeking a high-caliber Associate Engineer (A&D) to join our Energy Investment Banking group in Houston. The team advises upstream, midstream, and oilfield service clients across mergers and acquisitions (M&A), acquisitions and divestitures (A&D), and capital markets transactions.

This role sits at the intersection of reservoir engineering, reserves evaluation, commercial strategy, and transaction execution. You will be expected to operate as both a technical expert and commercially minded professional.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide reservoir engineering and other technical analysis in support of the execution of M&A and A&D transactions for our clients
  • Develop technical and commercial models including generating type-curves inputs, producing volume forecasts, inventory assessment, and full-cycle development planning
  • Analyze lease operating statements (LOS), G&P structures, differentials, and commercial terms to assess true asset-level economics
  • Assist with the coordination of executing mandates and external project meetings
  • Generate strategic content and presentation materials, including industry analysis and product-specific concepts, using both client and public data
  • Translate complex engineering analysis into concise, high-impact materials for internal and client presentations
  • Support execution activities including due diligence, data room preparation, Q&A management, industry research and analysis
  • Contribute to new business development through strategic industry analysis and differentiated technical insight

Specific Qualifications

  • 2–8+ years of experience as a production/reservoir engineer (E&P operator; reserves consultancy; energy-focused investment banking, private equity or asset management)
  • BS or greater in Petroleum Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Understanding of unconventional development (DCA, pressure behavior, type curve construction, spacing logic, capital efficiency)
  • Strong commercial instincts — understands IRR, NPV, capital efficiency, risked value and portfolio construction/optimization
  • Ability to challenge assumptions and form independent technical views
  • Experience in technical evaluation of oil and gas assets across North American conventional and unconventional plays
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access) and industry economics software such as Aries, PHDWin, and/or ComboCurve
  • Strong Microsoft Excel modeling capabilities (ability to build and audit complex models)
  • Familiarity with Enverus, business intelligence software (Spotfire, PowerBI), GIS platforms; Python/R or other coding experience is a plus
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
